Reassurance from the Darkness

Last night, after feeding my 4-month old daughter and laying her in the crib next to our bed, I felt compelled to write this poem after hearing the news of another mass shooting of innocent people. As a mother, I cannot help feeling worried about the world she is growing up in. Yet, like on many nights, as I hold her hand while she falls asleep I know that we cannot live our lives in fear and worry.
